The Italian Cultural Festival has two components, a cultural component and a religious component. The Festival begins at 12 pm with an Introduction of dignitaries and ends with a solemn Mass in honor of Padre Pio at 6 pm.
For the cultural side, there will be rides, face painting and a storybook hour for children; Italian Food; a concert of Italian songs and Tarantella dancers. Be spontaneous and learn how to dance the Tarantella!
We are very proud to have as a special guest speaker, Dr. Edward Iannuccilli, the author of Growing up Italian and Whatever happened to Sunday Dinner? Dr. Iannuccilli will give a presentation entitled, “Write your life” about Italian immigration and stories about growing up Italian in Rhode Island.
We are excited to have author Terry Moruzzi Herman launch her children’s book, Stella the Coccinella at our Festival. Terry will have a children’s story time and read Stella the Coccinnella.
As part of our religious devotion to Padre Pio there will be a morning and afternoon concert in the Shrine Church.
To honor Padre Pio there will be a roundtable discussing his life with special guests who knew him, know his family and have first class relics. In addition, Capuchin Friars from the San Lorenzo Friary will moderate the roundtable.
The highlight of the Italian Cultural Festival will be a Rosary Procession with our Lady of La Salette and Padre Pio followed by a solemn Mass honoring Padre Pio at 6 pm. Leading our procession will be a 100 foot rosary donated for the Mass by Bernadette Conte.
